WRITER: SIMON CLARKE

“William and Catherine have lived with me for the last 40 years. I first met them in The Oxford illuminated, and illuminating, edition of The Songs of Innocence and Experience. Since then, they have been a prompting presence in my life. A member of the Blake Society for years, in the 90’s I set up the annual event to commemorate Blake’s interment at Bunhill Fields still going strong today. The Blakes have informed my teaching: in community education in Lambeth (where else?), in my writing and in my music. ‘Honour the gifts in others ‘is one thing the Blakes often bend my ear about and this has informed the way we, my family and I, try to live.”
