House of William Blake

William Blake Fellowship has been invited to submit a business plan for No 17 South Molton Street, London, to become a dedicated learning and visitor centre for all.

As part of a new development by Grosvenor Property, ‘South Molton Triangle’, there is potential for the House of William Blake to become its jewel in the crown, a cultural hub in the heart of Mayfair attracting visitors far and wide.

This is wonderful and rare opportunity to create a lasting monument for Blake’s legacy locally nationally and internationally - for future generations.

There is only a short window of time to achieve this so, as we prepare the business plan, we are interested to speak to those who feel an affinity for this project and who wish to help it come to fruition.

We can share with you the different ways in which you can support this initiative and would love to hear from you.

SOUTH MOLTON STREET, MAYFAIR LONDON W1K 5QT, is a vibrant pedestrianised street that runs from Oxford Street to Brook Street. Bond Street Underground station is at the north end of the street and the Elizabeth Line a short walk via South Molton Lane behind.

William and Catherine Blake lived for 17years on the first floor of No17 South Molton Street (centre building in this photo). It was here Blake created his most celebrated illustrated masterpieces, ‘Milton A Poem’ and ‘Jerusalem the Emanation of the Giant Albion’. It was here he penned the famous words to what has now become the unofficial national anthem ‘Jerusalem’

There is a current proposal for the ‘The House of William Blake’ as it has been known for over a century, rather than be made into a private residence as part of Grosvenor’s South Molton Triangle Development, instead to become a learning and cultural heritage centre dedicated of the life and works and times of poet painter and visionary - national bard, WILLIAM BLAKE.

The House of William Blake would still fit in with the Georgian Street aesthetic but stand out as a prestigious Visitor Centre with Ground Floor ‘Blake themed’ café/merchandise shop upper floors a reconstruction of the Blake’s living quarters and studio with other space designed as workshop, exhibition and meetings rooms.
